3 Sisters

Three sisters (Rock formation near Sydney, Australia)

One of the many stories behind the Three Sisters, according to our guide in Australia, tells the story of a witch doctor of an aboriginal village with three daughters. As war was eminent with another neighboring tribe, the witch doctor put a spell on his daughters and turned them into rock as a way to protect them during the war. He promised that he would return and turn them back. As the story goes, he was killed in the war, and the three sisters are still waiting for him to return.

Opera House

Sydney Opera House

This beautiful site overlooks Sydney Harbor.

Harbor Bridge

Sydney Harbor Bridge

This is the bridge, where we climbed to the top and enjoyed a breathtaking bird's eye view of Sydney.

Cascades

Cascades near Blacksburg, Virginia

The beautiful Cascades can be found after a two-mile hike through a part of the Jefferson National Forest.

Wine

Wine and Coffee

This picture is from one of my oil painting books, and is a good practice picture.

Flora

Flowers

This is one of my first still life pictures. I like the shape of the bowl and the colors reflected on it.

Woman

Woman in a Chair

The scene for this painting came from another painting in an oil painting book. The original artist is Bandia Camps of Barcelona. He applied the technique of "frottis" in his work, which is a process of layering the oils, letting them sit and somewhat dry, and then adding more layers.

Mill

Mabry Mill

We had the opportunity to visit this old mill in Southwest Virginia. It is located just off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. I took some photos and painted this from one of the photos.

Yellow

Dad's Flowers

My father did much of his early work in acylics. I have a couple of his paintings in my home, and this is one of them. I decided to take this one and do my version of it in my style, in oil and knives.

Diary

My Diary

This piece I call "My Diary" because it is just that. It is a piece that is much different from what a typically do. It is my diary in the sense that it contains pages of my actual journal, but is also representative of myself in that the colors, texture, and piece itself represent who I am.

Chicago

Chicago Skyline

This painting I recently did for my sister. It was also primarily done in knives. My dad says that it gives the feel of the city of Chicago.

McCoy Falls

McCoy Falls

I did this painting as a gift to one of my PhD advisors. It is of a place called McCoy Falls near Virginia Tech on the New River.

Sinking Creek

Sinking Creek Bridge

This painting was a commissioned piece. It is of Sinking Creek Bridge, also known as as Clover Hollow Bridge. It is located in Giles County, and is one of only 7 remaining covered bridges in Virginia.

Ashleigh

Ashleigh

This commissioned collage was a graduation present for a friend's daughter. It is a different style from my typical landscapes, and is a compilation of many of the things that she loves.

Chain Dam

At the End of Chain Dam Road

This commissioned piece depicts the Lehigh River at Riverside Park in Easton, Pennsylvania. This work was done primarily in knives. If you look closely, you can see a train in the background, giving the whole painting a neat sense of nostalgia.

Grandma's Piece

This piece was something that my grandmother had requested. It is a little different than my typical style, but I know she really enjoys it.

Virginia Beach

This is a 16 x 20 oil done on canvas. I created it from a picture of Virginia Beach. It was a gift for my friend who was married there.

Lake Tahoe

This is a 9 x 12 oil done on canvasboard. It is from a photo a friend took of Lake Tahoe here in Nevada.

Santana Estates

This is a commisioned piece for a friend. If you look closely at the chimney, you can see the stones, a unique feature of this house.

Las Vegas Series

This is my Las Vegas series. While the centerpiece (Las Vegas sign) is a mixed meduim (both oil and acrylic), the remaining pieces are all oil. The canvas for the centerpiece is actually two 1" thick canvases measuring 18" by 36", bolted together in an "x" shape by their frames. The other frames are 2" thick 12" by 12" frames.

Cary House in Italy

This is a piece I did for my sister's wedding gift. It is a painting of her husband's father's house in Italy, where they had spent some time together. It measures 24 x 36.
